Although Jandi Small pursued other areas of study in school – she earned a degree in Biology and pursued a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture – the arts have been her true passion since childhood.
Ten years ago Jandi focused on her artwork full time when she created a pet portrait for an animal rescue group from whom she had adopted a dog. The painting was auctioned at a fund raising event and this proved so successful that Jan’s efforts raised over $60,000 for the group over the next two years.
Jandi and her physician husband live on a rural property with a menagerie of rescued animals that include dogs, chickens, dwarf goats, pot belly pigs, miniature horses ...and a kitten.
When painting, oils are Jan’s medium of choice. “The old master paintings were created in this medium,” Jandi says, “and oil paintings have unparalleled longevity and luminosity."
Jandi’s impressive portfolio includes commissioned portraits of animals, people and more recently, portraits of people with their pets.
