Hello and welcome to my online portfolio. My name is Catherine Bhogal and I am a professional oil painting artist living and working in the South Wales Valleys. I am based in Abercarn village, which is situated in Caerphilly Borough of South Wales.
I am inspired by all things from nature, especially figures. My artwork is colourful and vibrant. I capture the detail of light and movement, which I paint loosely with oil.
I work at my art studio which is based at my home, in a mining cottage in a welsh valley village. My studio window looks out towards Mynnyddislwyn mountain and towards the village of Newbridge, which helps me to reflect my thoughts for creativity.
I have always been inspired by figures and faces from young age. It began with oil as my sister would often sit for me, this followed on by changing my medium to charcoal and continuously sketching famous pop stars of my time.
I love painting portraits and figures. I enjoy most of all painting children, their playfulness and innocence entices me to capture their enjoyment of play. I am continuously seeking new ideas to entwine figures with the land, as both hold a fondness and gives me pleasure to paint.
At an early age I had my portrait painting submitted, judged and accepted to join the children's Cadbury Art Exhibition. Since then my art has always played an important factor in my life.
